At St Gabriel’s we actively encourage our children to take part in a different range of sports. This enables the children to take part in teams, work as individuals and aim to reach their full potential through a variety of sporting and extended school activities.
We have had teams represent our Academy in Football, Quick Stick Hockey, and Cross Country and they have all made St Gabriel’s proud with their commitment and positive attitude to sport.
We have been extremely fortunate to have benefitted from the Sports Premium 2015/2016 and once again this Academic Year 2016/2017.
The extra funding the Academy is given targets the areas below
1) Healthy Active Lifestyles
We have Healthy Eating sessions delivered by a qualified, experienced Teacher. Increasing the activity of the children in school, during school hours and in after school clubs. Sports Leaders have been selected from Y5 to assist with delivering sports activities to children in school during break times. The children wear their Sports Leaders bibs and caps with pride and have recently completed their Sports Leaders Training.
2) Competitive School Sport
School Competitions and Extended School Clubs help prepare the children for competitions. Our recent competitions have included Hockey, Football and Cross Country.
Our children have been enjoying working with Tom Burke and his coaches. They have been working with Year Three recently on healthy eating and have been taking part in various activities.
3) Physical Education
This includes education through physical activity, to improve the skills of teachers through their Continuing Professional Development and inviting trained, experienced coaches to work with the children. Tom Burke Sports play an active part in the life of St Gabriel’s.
